Turbocharge Your Memory
How many playing cards do you think you can remember, in order, out of a recently shuffled deck?
Hey, it’s Anwell, and this is Soft Power Leaders, by Brantio. We help brilliant women in Biotech and Pharma gain influence.
There are kids as young as 11 who can remember the precise sequence of cards in a shuffled deck in minutes. How did they do it? Instead of blindly trying to memorize them, they create stories about each of the cards.
I tried their approach. The first two cards in my deck were the king of diamonds and queen of hearts. In my mind, each card represented a celebrity. Diamonds represented wealthy celebrities. Tom Cruise was represented by the king of diamonds since he is the box office king. Hearts represented the most loved celebrities. Oprah was represented by the queen of hearts.
I created a quick story where Tom Cruise lent me money. I used the money to buy a present to give Oprah at her birthday party. By stringing together stories about each of the cards, I memorized an entire deck in minutes.
How might this help you?
The next time you pitch your ideas, string together a series of stories. Stories will help your ideas live in your executives’ minds long after you’ve left the room.
How might you burn your message into leadership’s minds?
Thanks for listening! Now go make it happen.
