The Teacher’s Curse
Have you ever had a terrific idea turned down by your manager?
Hey, it’s Anwell, and this is Soft Power Leaders, by Brantio. We help brilliant women in Biotech and Pharma gain influence.
Years ago, a well-known violin professor shared his frustration about the teacher’s curse.
If his students performed poorly, people questioned his skills as a teacher. If his students performed well, he received little credit; the students must be talented.
The next time you pitch an idea to your boss, they might be thinking along similar lines. If things go well, you’ll get all the credit. If things go poorly, senior leadership will ask who approved your idea. Your manager takes all the risk and gains little of the reward.
So how will you build trust with your manager to overcome this hurdle?
Thanks for listening! Now go make it happen.
