For over three decades, Steve Jobs wove stories of iconic products that revolutionized the world at noteworthy keynote events. From the iPod’s 1,000 songs in your pocket to the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, these products have made Apple one of the most valuable companies in the world.
We don’t have the resources and time to hire the full production and speechwriting staff that Apple has. Likely, few of us have anything as revolutionary or exciting to talk about during our presentations.
Apple, with all its advantages, re-engages its audience every 10 minutes. Most times, even quicker. They do this by changing speakers, showing videos, and changing formats.
Why?
Apple understands how easy it is to lose an audience, even one as passionate as theirs. They realize that attention and trust are two valuable resources. Neuroscientists discovered that people tune out after 10 minutes, many even sooner.
