Show, Don’t Tell
How memorable were the presentations you’ve heard over the past few months?
Hey, it’s Anwell, and this is Soft Power Leaders, by Brantio. We help brilliant women in Biotech and Pharma gain influence.
Meet Phil. He’s a dedicated scientist working in the pharmaceutical industry who values teamwork. He is always there for his team. Yawn.
Now meet Emily. You’ll find her at her office most of the time. However, sometimes you’ll find her in her office’s parking garage, sleeping in the backseat, where she always keeps a plush sleeping bag and pillow.
That’s because Emily’s regularly at the office by 6 a.m. and leaves late at night. Always there to help her frantic colleagues, she’s pulled into endless conference calls to put out fires. Occasionally, she’ll even be in two meetings at the same time with a phone at each ear!
When her puffy panda eyes feel too heavy to keep open, even after coffee, she’ll retreat to her car to recharge. Then she’ll come back, ready to inspire and help her coworkers.
What makes Emily’s story more compelling and memorable than Phil’s?
We can all agree that Emily is hard-working and values teamwork, even though I never told you directly. I showed you.
How might you use “show, don’t tell” the next time you pitch to leadership?
Thanks for listening! Now go make it happen.
